Lilia, a resident of Slovyansk, Donetsk region, recalls her home town and her former life with eyes full of tears and a broken voice.

She shares that they worked hard and their life wasn’t super rich but very happy. Unfortunately, their happiness did not last long. On February 24, people woke up in terrible terror from the sounds of airstrikes.

Stumbling fear overwhelmed the locals, many in panic left their homes, taking only their  documents. Lilia and her daughter arrived to Lviv Refugee Reception Center while her husband was forced to stay at home under fire.

The disadvantaged refugees did not expect such a warm welcome and a delicious hot meals provided by the Emmanuel Charity Association.

“I couldn’t believe this. We had to fight for life. It was a total shock. I thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be true. These sirens, this tense situation and this panic in the city also affected my daughter. The emotional pain is terrible because my husband stayed at home and our souls are also at home. Although we were received here so well, everything in my heart remained at home. All we have at home in Sloviansk was gained by hard work, honest work. All I understand now is that we were so happy then.

Here at the center where we were welcomed so well and everything is fine! People here treat us very well. We also try help in the kitchen, we cook and constantly clean. I don’t think there will be any problems. Everyone here understands that we all live together and need to work for the common good of collective living.

Thank you all very much, we are grateful to this house and to the Emmanuel organization for helping. We are very grateful. I will never forget that!”

Thanks to the caring support of the ordinary people, tens of thousands of internally displaced Ukrainians are provided with food and basic things in their escape far away from home. Only by helping we can change this world for the better and, of course, bring the long-awaited moment of victory closer. After all, our victory is not only over Russia but it is also a victory over hunger, death and disease.
