For some Ukrainians, the war began on February 24, 2022,  when Russia started air strike throughout Ukraine.

However, there are some Ukrainians who have been suffering from the war every single day for the last 8 years. The Zavrazhany family is just one of the many who have been experiencing Russian shelling, mortal danger and homelessness.

In 2015, a mortar shell hit their home in Zaitseve village, Donetsk region. Their house was completely destroyed by the projectile and could not be restored, but thanks to God, all family members miraculously survived.

The family who became homeless in a blink of an eye moved to the neighboring town of Bakhmut, Donetsk regiont. They experienced a lot of difficulties trying to make their life “normal” again. They found jobs, worked without days-off and finally saved enough money to buy a simple home in Bakhmut. The moment they thought they could finally live a normal life, the war came to their home again.

On February 24, 2022, Ukraine suffered air strikes from Russia. The life in Bakhmut is becoming increasingly dangerous every day with the multiple hits of shells, destroyed houses and mass evacuation.

Regardless of all these dangers, the Zavrzhany family refuses to leave their home this time.

“We are so tired of being homeless for the past 7 years, we worked so hard to have a home of our own again and we just bought it! We will not go anywhere, we don’t want to be homeless again!

We are very grateful to “Emmanuel” association for helping us with the food bags. We are very grateful to you for helping us survive in our new home town we have fallen in love with. Our town is now suffering from the enemy shelling but we believe that we will survive. Thank you again for helping us in this” – says Tetyana, the mother of the family.

Even though “Operation Blessing” team is supporting the need to evacuate families from the dangerous regions, we also respect people’s decision to stay and are supporting the families where they are.

We thank our partners from Ukraine, Poland, and America for all of the support making it possible to provide families like this with food which is really life-saving.
